“As a blind runner, I need a sighted guide if I want to run somewhere other than my treadmill. More than five years ago, Teri heard about my quest to find a guide runner and contacted me. Since then, every week, she has volunteered her time to guide me on our 6 km runs. She has never made me feel like a volunteer project and has become a trusted friend. Through our conversations, I've seen firsthand her deep commitment to our community, its residents and her genuine desire to understand the everyday challenges people with disabilities face. She has attended Blind Beginnings workshops and raised accessibility concerns with both Port Moody and Coquitlam and had them addressed. I see Teri at many Tri-Cities events throughout the year—talking and listening to residents—not as a photo-op—but genuinely conversing with them to learn what they are concerned about in our community.
