I received the official invitation to yesterday’s Candlelight Tribute event hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Coquitlam Branch 263 and the City of Coquitlam because of my role as a City Councillor. But I attended as a grateful Canadian, an engaged Branch 263 Legion member and a proud granddaughter.
My beloved maternal grandparents lived only a few doors away from the Robinson Memorial Park and they are now laid to rest there. My beloved Poppa, Percy Reader, an absolutely wonderful man, fought in World War II. I had the honour to once again place a lit candle on his grave marker to honour him. I was escorted to his grave by a veteran and an RCMP and with emotions that I can’t fully articulate, I placed with love, a lit candle next to the white cross, poppy and my Poppa’s name. I am incredibly grateful to all the men and women who served and serve our country to fight for world peace and freedom. Thank you to the Legion and the City for hosting this wonderful event every year. We will remember them.
I didn’t know photos were being taken of me during this meaningful occasion and am very thankful to have received them in my inbox this morning. Thank you.
